Giselle

Soft music wells into an ocean

Suspended on the cello’s strings,

My ballerina sprites to motion

She stems, she hovers, then she leaps.

I watch in stillness, breathless worry,

My love, a burden on her wings.

Be careful Spirit, Music’s Kore,

I couldn’t live without my dreams.

Like water out of music borne

She floats, I watch for her with every pore-

She falters on her pointes, regains aplomb,

Are snowflakes damaged in a storm?

She’s faultless.

The curtain falls, the lights are off.

My eyes are full of music, water soft

I take my breath, Giselle has shown

That fragile can be strong

As long as I believe, hold on.
